Hi! And welcome to my Get Real Utah blog.
My name is Karlie Major and I am Miss Utah 2014. While my responsibilities as Miss Utah take up the majority of my time right now I’m also much more than just a “pageant queen”. I am a student (on hold) at Utah State University studying communications, marketing and French. My love of traveling and experiencing new cultures led me to Chambery France, where I lived for 3 months during the summer of 2013. My biggest fear in life is dying before I see everything our beautiful world has to offer. My family consists of a very supportive mom and dad, one younger brother, one younger sister, and five miniature dachshund dogs. I enjoy doing most anything outdoors, dancing, photography and most of all ice cream!
As Miss Utah I get asked to speak on my platform on a regular basis. I talk to elementary aged students all the way up to college aged students and adults about body image and self-esteem, specifically related to the media. While I have shared my message with many different types of people, I still felt I needed to have something more to offer; and that is how this website began.
My hopes in putting together this website are to give people a place to educate themselves on the impact the media has on body image. I also want to provide information that will help others overcome low self-esteem, as well as provide a place for others to share their story with me and others who have similar struggles and experiences.
I also wanted to provide an area that I could share my experiences. I will share stories from my year as Miss Utah and experiences I have had relating to my platform.

Stay tuned for more to come and thank you for being a part of Get Real Utah!
